Viola Davis is celebrating “20 years of connection” with her husband Julius Tennon.
The EGOT-winning actress shared a series of photos of the couple on Instagram alongside a heartfelt note.
“We’ve seen the loss of family members and held each other up,” Davis wrote. “We’ve had accolades, triumphs, joy, grief, exhaustion and still I feel your grip. Through the fire and brimstone of life we have held on…together…..to each other….understanding no matter what, the promise is to not let go.”
Along with several throwback photos, Davis included a photo of the couple with their daughter Genesis whom they adopted in 2011.
The award-winning actress is also the stepmother to Tennon’s two other children from previous relationships.
The pair first met in 1999 on the set of City of Angels, a CBS drama.
While Davis was interested in Tennon, she admitted she didn’t call him for several weeks.
“I didn’t call him for six weeks,” she said. “I had bad credit at the time. I had anxiety attacks from driving. I had to work out some personal issues first.”
But after four years of dating Davis and Tennon got married in June 2003.
“The first time we got married with 15 people in our condo. It wasn’t big enough,” Davis said of their wedding during a 2016 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, per E! News. “So, three months later we went to Rhode Island with about 100 people.”
Happy anniversary to a beautiful couple! May you celebrate many more joyful years together.
