Staff at New York hospital surprised with a free vacation as thanks for fighting battle against coronavirus

Healthcare workers have been working around the clock to keep us safe and help us get better during the coronavirus pandemic. Throughout the past several months there have been many ways we have thanked them whether it be a nightly round of applause or a flyover from the United States Navy’s Blue Angels.

Recently, the staff at one hospital in New York City was thanked for their hard work with a free vacation.

Staff at Elmhurst Hospital in Queens, New York were surprised with a free getaway by American Airlines and Hyatt Hotels.

According to a press release, more than 4,000 staff at the hospital will receive a roundtrip flight and three-night stay to various locations around the U.S. and Caribbean.

Mark Hoplamazian, president and CEO, Hyatt, said many of the company’s employees expressed interest in honoring healthcare workers and this was their way of saying thank you.

“We are humbled by the health care workers’ dedication to saving lives. Now it’s our turn to take care of them like members of our own family, and we look forward to making their stays special when they are able to take a hard-earned break.”

According to reports, Elmhurst Hospital was one of the hardest hit hospitals. The healthcare facility had to increase their ICU capacity by 500 percent. So, at the very least vacation is very much well-deserved.

This is an awesome gesture! I only hope this is the beginning of thanking the hardworking healthcare workers.
