3 members of same family killed on way home from son’s football game – rest in peace

A family from Columbus, Georgia are mourning the loss of three of their own after a car wreck on Friday night caused by a wrong-way driver.

According to reports, Byron Jakes, his partner Katrina, and their daughter, Kamryn, were on their way home from a football game on Friday in which Byron and Katrina’s son – and Kamryn’s brother – Braylon had played.

Police say that the trio were driving when a car crossed into their lane, resulting in a head-on collision that caused their vehicle to burst into flames.

Jacqueline Jakes, Braylon and Kamryn’s grandmother, said: “Things went wrong… never, ever expected anything like this… never.”

According to WALB, Braylon is a sophomore at Carver High School and was playing in a football game against Thomasville on Friday night.

The 15-year-old took the bus home with his teammates, while his father Byron, 45, mom Katrina, 43, and sister Kamryn, 10, took the car.

“My babies, those were my babies, but I have Braylon to love on,” Jacqueline added. “I have to be strong for him.”

She explained: “It’s hard to bury a child, but I just can’t fathom and imagine having to bury the whole family… practically the whole family.”

Indeed, Braylon has lost his mother, father and sister, but his grandmother says he is doing his best to remain positive and retain some semblance of normality in his life.

“Braylon is hanging in there right now,” Jacqueline said.

“He’s doing fine. He’s laughing and happy right now. His football team was out here yesterday and they had such a fun time. He joked around and played. Right now, he’s doing ok.”

A family friend of Katrina’s, Tamika Huff-Johnson said:

“She was such a sweet, kind person.

“She just lights up a room when she walks in. She has that aura about her. She’s just special. Kamryn had that same special glow about her… You just couldn’t help but smile Just great people… Byron, the same just straight to the point. You knew how he felt because he was going to tell you straight.”

My heart goes out to Braylon and the rest of the Jakes family’s loved ones at this unimaginably difficult time.
