9-year-old healthy girl who went to bed at Easter with migraine wakes up paralyzed

Most of us live our lives everyday without properly stopping and taking the time to appreciate all that we have.

Health is, sadly, something a lot of people take for granted. The continued health of our loved ones is another thing some don’t truly appreciate until it is gone.

Every once in a while we’re given an abrupt reminder of the fragility of life, and how things can change on a dime, often when we least expect them to.

A healthy girl who went to bed complaining of a migraine woke up to find she was paralyzed, according to reports.

As per the Daily Mirror, 9-year-old Lexe Donlan had been suffering from headaches in the build up to the Easter weekend. Due to current restrictions enforced by the COVID-19 pandemic, she was diagnosed over the phone with potential sinusitis or migraines.

Yet when she woke up on Easter Sunday morning she was stumbling, feeling fatigued and her eyes were fixed to the left. Her parents instantly realized something serious was happening.

Mom Laura and dad Kees rushed to hospital where scans showed she had suffered a brain injury. As yet, though, the future remains uncertain.

Family friend Kerry Carruthers explained: “First she was diagnosed with sinusitis and then migraines and obviously it was difficult for them to actually get an appointment to see a doctor but they had been in contact with the local GP surgery and with 111.

“And then on Easter Sunday, 10 days later, she woke up and had very severe symptoms and was taken to the minor injuries unit at St Austell, and they immediately rushed her to  Royal Cornwall Hospital.

“There she has had an MRI scan and two CT scans of the brain which revealed increased pressure around the brain was causing her symptoms. But she still doesn’t really have a diagnosis.

“They had treated her for lots of different things in Cornwall and then Easter Monday she was taken to Bristol Children’s Hospital where she remains.”

Kees and Laura have said their daughter is making terrific progress.

“They still don’t know what it is so tests are being sent off. We don’t know what caused it but she’s fortunately not paralysed now.

“She is able to talk, but her speech is affected quite severely, and she has made massive progress over the last few days but the problem is, we don’t know what the future holds.”

We’re sending all our prayers to Lexe Donlan. Lord, keep her safe in your arms and oversee her recovery. In Jesus’ name I pray ❤️
