It’s fair to assume that there can’t be much the legendary Bette Midler hasn’t accomplished in life that she’s set her mind to.
A huge star in the ’70s and ’80s, the singer-songwriter, actress, comedian, and producer is still well known by audiences of today, boasting an enviable collection of four Golden Globes, four Emmy Awards, three Grammy Awards, and two Tony Awards.
In short, Midler is a born entertainer and performer, and though these days she arguably spends more of her time outside of the spotlight than in it, she remains relevant.
What’s more, the 77-year-old’s only daughter, Sophie, is now all grown-up, and her uncanny resemblance to her famous mother is turning heads…
Hear the name Bette Midler and you most likely think of films such as Hocus Pocus and The First Wives Club or tunes like Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, You Don‘t Own Me, and Wind Beneath My Wings.
Midler’s been around for so long – and achieved so much, I might add – that she’s become virtually synonymous with the entertainment industry. Not only that, but she’s successfully achieved the not-insignificant feat of remaining relevant across several generations.
These days, of course, Midler no longer graces our screens and turns out for award shows like she used to. After all, she’s 77, and by all accounts prefers to enjoy the fruits of her hard work while spending her days… well, precisely how she wants to.
Yet while we no longer get to see as much of Midler as we might like, she actually has a daughter, Sophie, who is her carbon copy.
Sophie was born in 1986 to Midler and husband Martin von Haselberg, two years after the couple tied the knot. As per reports, she harbored a great interest in her mother’s career as a child, before attending Yale University to study sociology and East Asian studies.
Following her graduation, Sophie worked for a few years in China, before returning to Yale to study at the drama school.
Then, in 2014, Sophie embarked upon her own acting career, debuting in a performance of a play called Billy And Ray in a New York theater in 2014.
Since then, Bette Midler’s daughter has appeared in Woody Allen’s 2015 flick, Irrational Man, as well as TV series American Princess and Pose.
After featuring in Irrational Man, famed director Allen has this to say:
“She’s wonderful. She came in with a lot of other women that read and she’s the spitting image of her [mother] and she was just good… I thought she was so good that I combined her part. There was another part too and when I gave her the role, then I dropped the other character out of the movie and worked it so that she could have a double role, so could appear more frequently ’cause she was impressive… She projects intelligence because she’s intelligent.”
Now, it’s wholly unfair to compare Sophie’s career to that of her iconic mother at this stage, but there’s no denying Sophie doesn’t look every inch Bette’s daughter.
