For many high students, homecoming is probably the most exciting event ever. It’s what so many kids look have been waiting for all summer.
For many students, choosing the right outfit is the most exciting part, whereas others prefer all the preparations leading up to the big event.
Then there’s the nerve-racking classic question that many homecoming-goers lose sleep about: “Will you go to homecoming with me?” Getting a yes from your crush can do wonders for your self-esteem.
17-year-old Daniel however, didn’t get the answer he was hoping for.
In fact, every girl he asked declined.
The reason? Daniel has downs syndrome.
Daniel was just about to give up hope when an angel appeared.
A student from a younger grade, Kylie, asked Daniel if he would to take her to homecoming.
Kylie had always seen Daniel for being Daniel – regardless of his disability.
“I don’t think of kids that have a disability as being different,” Kylie explains, adding, ”I hope I can make his night fun.”
Kylie’s act of grace and courage left Daniel’s mother in tears.
One thing is to be sweet enough to take Daniel to homecoming, but Kylie was also excited about it and was looking forward to dancing with her friend.
“It’s not about that Daniel has a disability. Kylie didn’t see any disabilities, that is what your heart wants as a mom,” Tonya says, breaking down in tears.
When producers at FOX5 heard about this story, they decided to treat the homecoming couple to a fabulous surprise.
Just as they were getting ready to leave for the event, Fox5 showed up with a number of surprises – and as you can imagine there were tears of joy everywhere.
The evening began with the couple getting a ride to the party in a fancy Rolls Royce, followed by a 3 course dinner at an elegant restaurant. Upon arrival to the party, a red carpet was rolled out just for them.
“I’m just so happy. I know my mother is proud of me, ” says Daniel.
Regardless of how old you are or where in the world you might be, a small gesture of kindness can go a long way – this is somehting we can all learn from this story.
