When Michael Stepien was murdered in 2006, his daughter’s sorrow knew no limits.
Jeni Stepien was suddenly without a dad, and she would never see him or talk to him again.
But Jeni would get the chance to hear her father’s heartbeat again—ten years later, at her wedding.
After Michael Stepien’s tragic death, his heart was donated to a man named Arthur Thomas, who was on his deathbed at the time.
“I was on death’s door when he was murdered and I needed a heart or I was going to be dying in the next few days,” Arthur Thomas told CBS.
With his new heart, Arthur recovered—and ten years later, he received a letter out of the blue.
The letter was from Jeni Stepien, the daughter of the man whose heart saved Arthur’s life.
Jeni explained that she was getting married soon—and she had a special request. Since her dad couldn’t be at her wedding, Jeni wondered if Arthur could walk her down the aisle in his place.
Arthur didn’t hesitate for a second.
“What a greater honor could a person have than walking the daughter of the man who’s given his heart to him. I can’t imagine a greater honor,” Arthur Thomas told CBS.
Ten years after the tragic event, Jeni was once again able to hear her dad’s heartbeat… in the body of Arthur. Jeni’s wedding was a day of tears and emotions, and she feels that it was also the best day of her life.
“I was just so thankful that my dad could be here with us today in spirit and a piece of his physical being as well. That was really special for us,” Jeni Stepien told CBS.
