Elizabeth was sitting at her table nursing her child when the manager of the restaurant approached her. He tapped her on the shoulder and asked her to “cover up.”
Elizabeth got up and walked out of the restaurant, but not before reminding the manager about the law.
In Iowa, where Elizabeth lives, it’s legal for a woman to breastfeed her own child in public places, including restaurants.
And because Georgia is particularly fragile, Elizabeth avoids covering her face with a breastfeeding blanket.
Elizabeth is well aware of the fact that there’s a debate about breastfeeding in public, but she hopes that stories like hers will help other breastfeeding moms find acceptance.
“I’m doing the best I can and I realize to some people it might look a little weird and I realize to some people, they might be shocked by it, but all I’m trying to do is nurse my infant,” she tells WQAD.

Breastfeeding is a beautiful thing and we can’t understand how anyone could think it’s offensive.
