Billy Miller, star of General Hospital, has died at the age of 43 after a struggle with “manic depression”, it has been confirmed.
The tragic news was first made public by soap opera journalist Michael Fairman, with a number of news outlets soon picking up on it over the weekend.
According to TMZ, representatives for the actor told how Miller was locked in a battle with “manic depression” at the time of his passing, though no cause of death has yet been revealed.
The 43-year-old, who featured on General Hospital from 2014 to 2019, is said to have died on Friday, September 15 in Austin, Texas, a mere two days before he was set to turn 44.
After getting his big break via landing the role of Richie Novak on All My Children, Miller went from strength to strength when he joined the cast of The Young and the Restless in 2008.
It was through that show that he won his first Emmy nomination – and win – in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series category. He was nominated for a second time in 2011.
In 2014, it was announced that he would be joining the cast of General Hospital as Jason Morgan. The actor would earn a further Emmy nomination, this time for Outstanding Lead Actor.
Yet following his exit from General Hospital in 2019, Miller appears to have fallen on hard times. No specific details have yet been given as to the manner of his death, but TMZ say he was struggling with “manic depression”, going so far as to speculate that he may have died by suicide.
were left shocked and disheartened by the news.
Actress Eileen Davidson tweeted: “I’m so sad to hear of Billy Miller’s passing. His infectious charm and warmth left lasting impressions on all of us who were lucky enough to have him in our lives. Im gonna miss that mischievous smile. Love you Billy.“
Eric Braeden tweeted: “We lost BILLY MILLER! It saddens me deeply! He was a very gifted actor! Amelia(Victoria) and I took him to dinner one evening while he was in tough negotiations, and I remember telling him to reconsider, because rarely is an actor given a part that describes him almost perfectly, and to not make the mistake I had seen some actors make over my 60’years in the business, that they are indispensable! Once an actor thinks that or is told that by some sycophants, they step onto a slippery road…usually to oblivion! “BILLY BOY” was not only a damn good actor but a nice man! May he rest in peace and meet up with KRISTOFF in the BEYOND, ‘the undiscovered country from whose bourn no Traveller returns “ and tell each other jokes! They were both loved by their colleagues!“
“RIP Billy Miller!,” one fan wrote. “I will miss you always.
Another added: “I can’t even believe #BillyMiller is gone. This truly breaks my heart. He was so hard not to love. My prayers and deepest condolences to everyone at @YandR_CBS @YRInsider. Thank you for the comment about about Billy and Kristoff; I find comfort in that. I pray he is at peace now.
“I have not read one unkind, argumentative tweet or post about Billy Miller. I have only seen heartfelt messages of love, respect and condolences. RIP dear Billy” a third added.
