A contestant on The Golden Bachelor has sparked a debate after missing her daughter’s wedding in order to appear on the television series.
Sandra Mason’s decision to remain on the show and miss her daughter’s special day was in stark contrast to Joan Vassos’ decision to leave the show to be with her daughter after she suffered a complicated birth.
“Sorry did Sandra say that she’s here on this silly television program instead of being at her daughter’s wedding?????” someone wrote on Twitter.
The revelation came during a nonchalant conversation between Mason and Gerry Turner, the Golden Bachelor.
“This is something my daughter and I discussed early on. She said, ‘Mom, I’ve got my guy. I want you to go get yours,’” the 75-year-old fan favorite explained to Turner.
Turner, a father of two, told Mason he was “flattered” she chose to be with him instead of his daughter’s “big event.”
Since Mason was unable to attend her daughter’s wedding, he suggested the two FaceTime her daughter instead. After finally figuring it out and congratulating the bride, Mason gushed about Turner and his thoughtfulness.
“That was so sweet of him. He’s always full of these sweet surprises and he’s so thoughtful. This man is something different.”
While Mason appeared to have no regrets about the situation – she received a rose from Turner – many on social media questioned her priorities.
“Missing your daughters wedding to go on golden bachelor is CRAZY,” a viewer wrote.
Another viewer had numerous questions for Mason, “i swear i’m not trying to judge but why is sandra missing her daughters wedding day for this…? second marriage? it it an elopement? are they not very close? i have a plethora of questions.”
Although not as loud as those in disagreement with Mason, there were a few who agreed with her choice.
“Sandra a real one for missing her daughters wedding to play in the 1st annual golden bachelor pickleball tournament.”
“If anyone tries to trash talk Sandra bc of this LEAVE HER ALONE,” a viewer wrote on Twitter.
