Man forbids wife-to-be from wearing white on wedding day

Most brides traditionally wear white on their wedding day – though, whatever color and style of dress they choose to wear should be their decision and their decision alone.

That’s why this woman’s story – centered around her fiancé’s absurd wedding dress demands – might come as a shock to many of us.

Keep reading to find out just how controlling this ghastly groom-to-be was towards his fiancée!

The woman shared her tumultuous relationship story on Reddit’s ‘Off My Chest‘ thread. Engaged to her fiancé, Ryan, for eight months, she encountered an unexpected twist as they approached their wedding day.

Ryan’s peculiar request concerning the color of the wedding dress opened up a Pandora’s box of beliefs and insecurities, sparking a heated argument that shook the foundations of their relationship.

The bride should not wear white

The woman, referred to as OP (Original Poster), began her narrative by detailing the dynamics of her six-year relationship with Ryan. She had been the primary planner for their wedding, with occasional input from her fiancé. In October, just a month before their wedding, Ryan dropped a surprising request — suggesting that she should not wear a white dress.

OP initially dismissed it as a creative whim (although she did also think that it was “totally weird”), writing: “Ryan is a very artistic guy, so I figured this was more about how the photos would turn out or something along those lines, but I’m set on wearing white. I told him this and I could see that he was annoyed but he let it go.”

As OP purchased her white wedding dress two weeks before the big day, Ryan’s dissatisfaction escalated into a full-blown argument when he found out what color dress his fiancée had chosen. His strong opposition to the white dress took an unexpected turn when he revealed why he didn’t want his bride-to-be to wear the color – brides should only wear white if they were “pure.”

“When I asked him what color he thought I’d be wearing, he told me I should wear red. Again, this was super weird to me. I asked him why I would wear red to our wedding, and he told me that brides only wear white when they are pure,” OP wrote.

She then explained that she felt that his strong feelings regarding her wearing the color white likely stemmed from insecurities surrounding her past. “Ryan and I started dating when I was 21 and he just turned 20. He was a virgin when we met, and I only had one other person who was my ex-boyfriend of four years throughout high school,” OP explained.

“This caused a lot of problems the first year of our relationship and we almost did not continue dating because of how insecure he felt,” she added. “After that first year, it was never a problem again until now I guess.”

An intervention

In a dramatic turn of events, Ryan sought support from his mother, hoping to sway OP. However, even his mother couldn’t align with what he was demanding, pointing out that, if he was so set on the idea of his bride being “pure”, then he should also wear red to the wedding, given that he was no longer a virgin himself.

The confrontation left Ryan in tears, but he clung to the idea that wearing white would deceive their wedding guests, defending his reasoning as it was “different for guys.”

The fallout from the argument naturally left OP disgusted by Ryan’s actions and odd fixation with her past (despite not being religious), and she began to seriously reconsider their relationship.

What happened next?

OP wrote an update on the post two weeks later, revealing that she and Ryan had parted ways and that she was now single for the first time in over six years. She even went as far as asking Redditors what she should wear on her first date! You go, girl!

People took to the comments section to voice their opinions on OP’s crazy story, overwhelmingly taking OP’s side. “Poor old Ryan. In his late 20s now. Gonna find tracking down a virgin for his next partner even trickier,” one person wrote. “Not to mention getting his mind blown first time he goes to a wedding where the bride is in white and her children are there.”

Another person chimed in with: “I’m guessing all of her friends have been praying for this for years and had about 10 phone numbers for her within an hour of her telling them about the breakup to make sure she never even considered going back to the prat.”

Wow, this had a lot of unexpected twists and turns! What did you think of it all? Let us know in the comments!
