Guy dresses as Grim Reaper on beaches that have reopened prematurely amid coronavirus pandemic

The debate continues to rage concerning Florida’s decision to re-open its beaches. Many believe it’s too soon for people to be flocking in their droves to catch some sun.

Regardless of your opinions on the decision, you’re sure to appreciate the man who has vowed to dress up as the Grim Reaper on the beaches that have been reopened.

As of right now most of the U.S. remains in lockdown. COVID-19 has exacted a harsh toll on the country, with areas such as New York finding themselves particularly harshly afflicted.

But despite the ongoing difficulties and the rampant cases of the virus, beaches in Jacksonville, Florida reopened to the public last week.

Republican Mayor Lenny Curry said that he was opening the Duval County beaches strictly for “essential activities only”.

“This can be the beginning of the pathway back to normal life,” he said, “Please respect and follow these limitations. Stay within the guidelines for your safety as well as for the safety of your neighbors.”

Of course, giving people such a wide-span of interpretation – many aren’t sure exactly what constitutes “essential activities” – could easily end badly. Indeed, many Floridans are worried that reopening beaches now could see a spike in cases.

One man in particular seems not to have taken the news well. Florida-based lawyer Daniel Uhlfelder promised in a tweet to dress up as the Grim Reaper and travel to beaches open to the public from the 1st of May.

He claimed he’s already ordered the Grim Reaper outfit … so we wait with baited breath to see the results.

I don’t know about you, but I for one find myself questioning the decision to open beaches to the public just now. What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments box.
