Heartbroken mom left alone on Mother’s Day goes for a meal – receives incredible surprise

If you’re anything like me, Mother’s Day means breakfast in bed, a bouquet of flowers, a gift and plenty of affection… all for the wonderful woman that brought me into the world.

For some, of course, the idea of a ‘fairytale’ Mother’s Day sadly isn’t a realisation. For many mothers, the day can be a lonely and sad affair.

Perhaps their children are living abroad, perhaps they’ve already passed away, or perhaps they’re in a profession that doesn’t give them time enough to see their family. One mom, Barbara Foy, was hoping her son would call on Mother’s Day, but he didn’t.

Since Barbara hadn’t heard from him in a while, it wasn’t really a shock to her. Still, she was disappointed, and so decided to do something to try and cheer herself up.

She headed to her local Ruby Tuesday to enjoy a meal… alone. Upset and feeling the weight of loneliness, Barbara remained in her shell until a conversation was struck with her lovely server.

The pair got talking and Barbara revealed she was alone on Mother’s Day, yet to hear from her son. Her server listened intently and nodded along, before returning to the kitchen. She knew something had to be done, so she and her coworkers hatched a plan.

The Ruby Tuesday employees quickly assembled a gift basket for Barbara while she finished her lunch, oblivious to what was happening.

When they presented their efforts to Barbara, she was utterly perplexed. But the kindness didn’t stop there…

Her lunch was paid for by someone else, before another customer – one who had overheard Barbara speaking with the server – gave her a rose. Barbara told WMBF News that she was amazed with the kindness shown to her.

“I really felt like I was queen for a day…mother for a day!” she said.

“I’ve never been made to feel so special.”

Well that was enough to make me shed a tear. What I want to know is what her son was doing while all of this was happening?

It doesn’t take five minutes to call someone you love – the least you can do – and it’s always important to remember that while people are here one day, they can be gone the next. Never take the people you love, and those that love you, for granted.

What an incredible gesture from the staffers at Ruby Tuesday! They turned Barbara’s day around and gave her an experience to remember. Share if you thought it was a great move by them!
