The heat in Newport News, Virginia, this summer is palpable. With sizzling temperatures hitting 105 F (40 C), it’s not easy for the city’s outdoor workers.
Imagine working outside in the dry, hot heat. It certainly wouldn’t be fun. But fortunately there are kind souls out there like 8-year-old Carmine McDaniel. The little boy has a special appreciation of mail carriers and hopes to make the heat a little more bearable for his postman.
When Carmine noticed his mail carrier struggling in the scorching heat, he decided to help.
And what this little Samaritan did went straight to my heart!
Carmine and his mail carrier have greeted each other almost daily for several years. When Carmine noticed how the postman was struggling in the scorching heat, the boy came with a great idea all by himself.
The next day, when the mail carrier came by Carmine’s house, the boy had put out a large red cooler and stocked it with water and Gatorade.
“I just thought because it was really hot outside, and I didn’t want him to maybe pass out or anything. Because they’re really important so people can pay their bills and stuff like that. And I didn’t want him to pass out pretty much,” Carmine says in the video below.
Carmine’s home security camera footage shows the moment when the mail carrier went up to the boy’s front door. And the look in the postman’s eye when he sees the cooler is really touching. Later, a local news team found out about it and caught up with both Carmine and the mail carrier to report on the little boy’s thoughtful act.
