It’s been an up-and-down year for Madonna, but the legendary songstress was able to ring in her 65th birthday in style earlier this week.
The Queen of Pop was showered with love from around the world on Wednesday, August 16, with fans even getting the chance to see an unedited image of the star – something that, although may not sound like much, has become a rarity these days.
The birthday celebration was a welcome wind of positivity after a trying couple of months for Madonna. Back in July the 65-year-old was hospitalized with a serious bacterial infection; such was her condition that speculation insisted family members had feared the worst.
The Vogue singer, who was set to begin the highly anticipated Celebration Tour on July 15, penned a heartfelt message to fans after waking up in hospital.
“Thank you for your positive energy, prayers and words of healing and encouragement,” Madonna wrote. “I have felt your love. I’m on the road to recovery and incredibly grateful for all the blessings in my life.“
She added: “My first thought when I woke up in the hospital was my children.”
Weeks later Madonna shared an update in which she thanked her “lucky stars” for all their support over the years as she also took a moment to celebrate the 40th anniversary of her debut album, Madonna.
“To be able to move my body and dance just a little bit makes me feel like the Luckiest Star in the world!” she wrote.
“Thank you to all of my fans and friends!” she continued. “You must be my lucky stars too! And Happy 40th Birthday to my very. First Album- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.”
The world-renowned star has been heavily active on social media over the past few months – unsurprising given that she had planned to begin a world tour last month. Yet, according to reports, many of her fans have been left disappointed with the fact that the majority of the videos and pictures Madonna has uploaded appear to be edited.
So it was that when a close friend of the singer’s, Maha Dakhil Jackson, uploaded an apparently unedited photo to mark her birthday, Madonna’s followers reacted with a wave of positivity.
“Happy birthday to my dear sister, ‘a bride married to amazement’ Viva with that badass life force. I cherish you,” Dakhil Jackson wrote.
Supporters of Madonna were quick to weigh-on on the photo in question, with many offering words of encouragement.
“Beautiful non filter picture,” one commented.
A second added: “GORGEOUS untouched photo! Love it.”
“Happy birthday, Beauty 😍” a third wrote.
Earlier this year, Madonna was forced to defend her seemingly ever-changing looks after appearing at the 2023 Grammys.
The Like A Virgin star sparked concern amongst fans, many of whom were quick to remark upon her enlarged lips, swollen cheeks, and braided hair.
One viewer tweeted: “Madonna who? That can’t be her? Can it ?”
Another added: “#GRAMMYs I really wish Madonna never touched her face. There really was no reason. She was going to age beautifully. She’s always been beautiful. #Stopplayingwithyallface#Grammys2023#Madonna.”
A third commented: “I love Madonna. I really do. But lord what did she do to her face.”
