Over $750,000 raised for funeral of 5-year-old shot in the head in front of his sisters

Over $750,000 has been raised to cover the funeral costs of Cannon Hinnant, the five-year-old shot in front of his sisters last week.

As per tragic reports, little Cannon was shot in the head at point-blank range on Sunday, August 9, as he rode a bicycle outside his home in Wilson, North Carolina.

25-year-old Darius Sessoms, a neighbor of the boy’s father, has been charged with murder. He is alleged to have approached Cannon and shot him for no reason in front of the five-year-old’s two sisters, aged seven and eight.

In the wake of Cannon’s death, and the obvious shock that went with it, his grandmother, Gwen Hinnant, set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for his funeral.

The aim of of the fundraiser was $5,000, but people from all over the U.S. and indeed the world have contributed an incredible $755,000 at the time of writing.

The GoFundMe page reads:

“On Sunday, August 9th, this precious angel was playing outside with his siblings when he was murdered. He was merely doing what he would do any other day and that’s playing with his sisters, riding his bike, doing what kids do and all of the innocence that comes with being a child.

This family has faced unimaginable pain because of this senseless act of violence. We are asking for your donations to assist with anything that may be needed for expenses related to his services. We offer our sincerest appreciation in this extremely difficult time. #justice for Cannon.”

Cannon, who was due to start kindergarten on Monday, was buried on August 13 at the Shingleton Funeral Home. His alleged killer Darius Sessoms, meanwhile, faces a court hearing on August 25. He is currently being held in jail without bond.

My heart bleeds to know that this poor little boy lost his life in such horrific and needless circumstances.

Rest in peace, Cannon. All our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Now we can only hope Darius Sessoms faces the justice he deserves.
