Washing your hair with beer can reduce dandruff and hair loss

Were someone to ask me what mankind’s most helpful creation is thus far, the answer I’d be sorely tempted to give is beer.

That’s not just because I work for the Beer Bible and have my editor standing over my shoulder, watching bleary-eyed as I type these very words (it’s a little of that, but not all). It’s because for me, and I guess you too, since you follow the page, there are very little problems beer can’t solve.

If anything, beer takes any situation and makes it better, unless of course you’re behind the wheel of a car, or tasked with wielding some piece of heavy machinery with any amount of precision.

Look, my point is beer is good. No, scratch that, beer is great, and as if it couldn’t get any better, there’s apparently a way you can use beer to reduce hair loss and keep a mighty clean scalp. Sadly, it’s not via drinking it (Father have mercy on my soul), but any use of beer is good, right?

Apparently, using beer as your shampoo from time to time can be really beneficial for your scalp. Not only can it help strengthen your roots and get rid of dandruff, but it’s also said it can aid in the prevention of hair loss.

The maltose and sucrose are, according to reports, helpful when it comes to tightening your hair’s colour and creating a shine. Not only that, but they assist in repairing damage such as that rendered by split hairs or an irritated scalp.

So, how exactly does one wash their hair with the amber nectar?

Step 1

Poor the beer into a bowl (drink a beer first, just so as to steady yourself for what might appear to be a waste). Leave the beer for around 30 minutes to an hour, allowing for a reduction of alcohol and gas concentration.

Step 2

Shampoo your hair as you would normally, only substituting conditioner for beer. Slowly pour it into your hair in all its golden glory, while massaging gently with your free hand (between sips of beer, of course). Work it around for two minutes or so, while if the hair is split you can soak the tail in beer for five minutes to help with the repair work.

If you’re at all perturbed by the idea that you smell of beer – since when has that been an issue? – then simply reverse the process with beer first and shampoo second.

Step 3

Finally, rinse with water and dry your hair with a towel. Avoid the use of a hairdryer for the best results, while you should only opt for beer shampoo a maximum of three times a week.

By all reports, you should notice a difference after one or two applications. Stronger hair, less chance of it falling out, etc etc etc. And if it doesn’t work? Well, there’s always drinking it …
