“The sweetest thing”: 10-year-old Phillies fan gives foul ball to crying 7-year-old girl

The advent of social media has meant a sharp increase in content being uploaded for all the world to see.

Sometimes, this can mean that horrible stories or videos spread like wildfire around the net. Other times, however, it can mean that we all get to admire or appreciate an act of kindness and compassion that otherwise might not have gotten the rightful amount of exposure.

Fortunately, this story centers around a video that falls very definitely into the second of those two categories.

A 10-year-old boy in Philadelphia has gone viral after an act of heartwarming kindness he exhibited on Wednesday night during the baseball game between the Phillies and the Cubs.

As per reports, a foul ball was hit down the third-base line, where young Aaron Pressley happened to be sitting with his dad.

“I’m following the ball and I see it hit the ground, so I went to go grab it and it was just exciting,” Aaron explained.

For Aaron, a huge Philly fan, it was a dream come true. Yet his evening was about to take another twist when he spotted an even younger girl nearby.

“I look over and I see the girl, she’s crying,” he said.

The girl was 7-year-old Emma Brady, who had very nearly caught the ball herself.

“A guy, he catched the ball and I tried to get it, but he was too quick,” Emma said. “I cried because I fell on my leg.”

Little did Emma know, though, that Aaron has a heart of gold.

“He came up to me and gave it to me,” Emma said.

Aaron added: “I was like it just didn’t feel right having the ball and knowing that somebody is crying so I had to just give it to her.

“She was just so polite, and she said thank you and we had to just take a picture together.”

Patrick Brady, Emma’s father, said: “He came right over without hesitation. He saw her for a moment and without even thinking, he just turned and handed her the ball. It was the sweetest thing.”

Luckily, the Phillies got wind of Aaron’s gesture, and they gifted him another baseball so that he didn’t go home empty-handed. Emma’s family then bought him a gift card, so that the next time he goes to watch a game he can buy himself some gear.

What a wonderful gesture! Aaron, if you’re reading this, we – along with a great many others – think you’re a splendid young man!
