Twin sisters, 60, have been working at the same McDonald’s for 40 years, and won gold in the Special Olympics

In a way I feel sorry for anyone who didn’t get to grow up with a sister.

I mean, sure I’m biased (I grew up with three sisters), but in my point of view there are very few bonds that can ever claim to be as strong as sisterhood.

My sisters and I keep in regular contact – even when we fight, which we do often, we always find our way back to one another in short order. Put simply, there isn’t any facet of my life that they don’t make better.

Which is why I can only be envious of the two twin sisters from Utah who have worked side-by-side with one another at the same McDonald’s restaurant for 40 years!

As per reports, Ellen and Elaine Hamilton started working at the 3300 S. Main Street McDonald’s in Salt Lake when they were both 20. These days, they’re known and loved throughout their local community.

“This one is my home,” Elaine said to KSL. “I know the people here. I know the manager. I know the people.”

Elaine, now 60, said that customers often remark on what a good job she and Ellen do.

Ellen herself, meanwhile, said she loves her job because it has allowed her to meet “a lot of people” when she delivers their food at the restaurant.

“I clean everything,” Ellen said.

Indeed, Elaine and Ellen – who say they love working with each other, as they’re best friends – do such a good job that recently a customer reached out to the president of McDonald’s in a bit to get recognition for them.

Last Friday, during a ceremony at the restaurant with their co-workers, Darin Angeli, who represents Watson Management, which owns and operates the Salt Lake McDonald’s, celebrated the sisters’ longevity.

“It just means a lot to us, when we can keep employees that long,” he said. “Not only do they make our customers happy, but they make us happy, too. They’ve been around for so long, we can trust and rely on them. They show up every day, and so it means everything. It means the world to us.”

Ellen and Elaine’s brother, Greg Hamilton, described his sisters as extremely hard workers who “take care of all of us.”

“It’s really amazing that they have done so well, especially since my parents have both passed away,” he said. “They still live in the same house that we all grew up in.”

“I’m just so thrilled that McDonald’s has been so willing to work with them.”

Now, this is hardly the first time the sisters have been the center of attention. As per reports, they’re both long-time competitors in the Special Olympics, and recently both received gold medals for bocce ball.

A sister-in-law to the women said neither Ellen nor Elaine have any plans on retiring. “Sixty,” apparently, “is just a number” to them.

This story really touched me. I think the world could do with a few more inspirational people like these two sisters.

Congratulations on 40 years in the job, girls. We hope you can celebrate many more together.
