Waitress finds $1700 ‘tip’ left by customer on table – immediately knows what she has to do

As children, we’re always taught that kindness breeds kindness. We’re taught that when given the opportunity to do the ‘right’ thing, we should seize it with both hands.

Sadly, it’s a lesson that too few people carry with them to adulthood. In today’s world, exploitation is common, and the slightest mistake can leave you at the mercy of someone willing to take advantage of your misfortune.

Fortunately, there remain compassionate people in every day life too. Kaylie Cyr is one of these.

When Kaylie, a waitress at a Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant in Portland, Maine, found a huge stack of cash on one of her tables, she knew something wasn’t right.

In spite of any sudden excitement she may have felt, she reasoned that there are tips, and then there are instances when people may have simply made a mistake and left money behind.

It was rather fortunate for Glenn Morse that she had such presence of mind. Morse, a regular at the restaurant, had dined there and accidentally left an envelope containing $1,700 on the table. Apparently, it was money intended for the expenses and payroll at his business. Morse was long gone by the time Kaylie found the envelope.

According to ABC News, Cyr explained, “I looked inside and saw a big stack of 100 dollar bills. You hear those stories where people give those huge tips, but after seeing his name on the envelope, I knew it wasn’t the case.”

Knowing that there must have been a mixup, Kaylie returned the money. More would come back to the restaurant the next day to thank her for her honesty.

As a reward, he gave her $100 for returning the cash. She was delighted to have been handed the money, but more happy that she can live her life knowing she did the right thing.

For Morse’s part, he was surprised that a waitress would anonymously surrender cash without expecting any sort of recognition. “You’d think someone would say, ‘It was me who did that great deed’ and I thought that was very impressive,” he said. “She wasn’t been looking for a reward or praise. She was just a gracious, great person.”
