Gerry Turner, 72, had to take his ‘very first STD test’ to become the ‘Golden Bachelor’

In order to become the first Golden Bachelor, Gerry Turner had to take a number of tests.

While he was happy to comply, there was one test he was unsure about: the STD test.

During a recent appearance on Justin Long’s “Life Is Short” podcast, the 72-year-old said he was a bit concerned not because of his health, but because he didn’t know what to expect.

“I was actually traveling with an old girlfriend — we were just friends — and I got a call from ABC wanting me to initiate the process to go get a STD test,” he recalled.

“That may have been my very first STD test. I had no idea what was gonna happen. I didn’t know if they were gonna look in the iris of my eye, take a urine sample [or] a blood sample. I had no idea. Did not know.”

Taking an STD test wasn’t the only thing Turner had to do in order to be cast on the show. He also had to submit his fingerprints for a background check and undergo a “psychological evaluation that was like 360 questions and then another hour of interview.”

“The vetting process is ridiculously thorough.”

Wouldn’t you rather things be thorough than lackadaisical? I know I sure would!
