Jimmy Kimmel celebrates son’s 7th birthday with update on his heart condition

Jimmy Kimmel has another update to share about his son’s health.

Seven years after revealing his son William “Billy” Kimmel was born with a heart defect, the late-night host is sharing a heartwarming update.

In 2017, Kimmel began Jimmy Kimmel Live unlike any other show. He got personal.

The then 49-year-old explained he and his wife Molly McNearney had just welcomed their son Billy, but he immediately broke down into tears as he continued describing Billy’s birth story.

Shortly after he was born, a nurse noticed he was “purple.” Doctors diagnosed Billy with a heart defect, and at three days old he underwent open heart surgery.

“Six days after open heart surgery, we got to bring him home, which was amazing,” the comedian said. “He’s doing great. He’s eating, he’s sleeping. He peed on his mother today while she was changing his diaper. He’s doing all the things that he’s supposed to do.”

Kimmel revealed Billy would need to undergo two more procedures as he grew older.

Over the years, Kimmel has expressed his gratitude for the medical professionals who have helped Billy. This year, the father of four who also shares a young daughter with McNearney, revealed Billy’s birthday wish was to give back to those who helped him.

“Billy is asking friends ‘to give $7 because I’m seven to help kids in the hospital.’ (he also wants a spy kit) His goal is ‘to raise $100 to help sick kids.”

After one day of fundraising, Billy was able to raise more than $42,000.

Along with sharing Billy’s selfless wish, Kimmel told his followers Billy was “doing great thanks to the doctors, nurses, therapists and staff at @ChildrensLA & @CedarsSinai.”

We’re so happy to hear the good news! Happy birthday, Billy! May you continue to enjoy good health.
