This is supposed to be a “redneck” way to grill, but it looks like it works no matter where you’re from. And since these grills are basically free—you just need a couple of wheel rims—why not get in the DIY spirit and make yourself a new grill? You could be cooking up some burgers and dogs in the backyard in no time!
All you need are two old rims and you’re on your way to BBQ heaven.
First step—take the tires off the rims. If you have access to a garage, you can use a machine like this. But a crowbar will do in a pinch.
Since you’re going to be cutting metal and welding it together, remember, safety first! (And watch the video below for more detailed instructions.)
You’re going to be welding two rims together, but first you need to cut this pattern into each rim.
The whole you get when you put the rims together makes an opening to feed the wood through.
Now it’s time to weld the two pieces together.
With the furnace done, all you need to do is add the grill on top. Find an old grate and weld it to the rim you want on top.
Cut it down to size and you’re done!
The only thing left to do is fire up your new grill and get cooking!
