Artist uses recycled materials to create towering wooden trolls that live in forests around the world

Thomas Dambo is a Danish artist and according to his website, he’s been building things since he was a child. Currently he uses trash or recycled items as the media for his creations.

“By doing this he hopes to inspire people to have fun and think of trash as a resource.”

He creates anything from small furniture pieces to larger than life wooden sculptures that are hidden away from people.

In order to find the sculptures you need to read a treasure map or a poem that can be found alongside the giants and trolls. A copy of the map can also be found on the artist’s website.

Dambo uses any kind of wood that he can get his hands on to create his sculptures.

“Mainly from 600 old pallets, an old wooden shed, a fence and what ever else I was able to scavenge,” he wrote on Bored Panda.

He also enlists the help of local volunteers to create each sculpture and as a thank you the sculptures are named after one of them.

“I hope my art will inspire people to see the big potential in recycling and taking better care of our planet.”

While many sculptures are located near Dambo’s hometown of Copenhagen, there are a few in the United States, one in Australia, one in South Korea, and a few in Puerto Rico.

Will you go on a hunt for Dambo’s giant trolls?
