The legendary Dolly Parton has brought the entire world into mourning. Her nephew, Brian Seaver, shared the devastating news in an Instagram video on Tuesday, telling the world about Dolly’s death. She was 80 years old.
Her team later confirmed Dolly Parton had died after a brief battle with cancer.
“This video announcement is something Dolly asked of me years ago, before I fully absorbed it as a future reality. As her head of security for more than two decades, a role my father Larry held before me, I have imagined the heaviness of this moment but haven’t truly felt it until now,” Seavers said.
Dolly Parton dead at 80
“It is an honor, an honor that is mixed with absolute pride and great sadness. But sadness lies with us, not with Dolly. Dolly has lived in the light and is in the arms of Jesus, surely met by Carl, her parents, and countless others who have watched her and longed to meet her in the heavens.”
In the U.S, President Donald Trump didn’t spare time to pay tribute to the beloved Dolly Parton. On Truth Social, the president wrote, “Very sad to report that Dolly Parton, one of the greatest Country singers, and far beyond, EVER, has just passed away. This is a true loss for millions of people. There has never been anyone like her, and never will.”
Trump also announced that “as a mark of respect” for Parton’s memory,” that “the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset, September 1, 2026.”
“I also direct that the flag shall be flown at half‑staff for the same period at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations,” Trump added.
Dolly Parton declined Presidential Medal of Freedom twice
Dolly Parton has never been much of a politician. She didn’t speak out on political issues, but instead took the initiative on her own to try to create a better world.
She even declined the Presidential Medal of Freedom from both Donald Trump and former President Joe Biden.
In 2021, she turned down the honor during Trump’s first term, citing her husband’s health and concerns about traveling during the COVID-19 pandemic. Later, she decided she could not accept the honor from Biden either.
Speaking on NBC’s Today show, Parton said, “I feel like if I take it, it’ll be doing politics, so I’m not so sure.”
Donald Trump was a big fan of Donald Parton. He used her song “Jolene” on his campaign playlist, but whether they had a personal friendship is unknown. However, on Wednesday, during an interview on Glenn Beck’s radio show, the president made a bombshell claim about Dolly Parton.

Donald Trump said Dolly Parton “really liked” him, according to the New York Post. He also claimed the country music legend stayed out of politics because she didn’t want to risk losing fans.
“She was unique. I mean, she was amazing,” Trump said. “And to lose her, it’s like you lose a member of the family, you know, we all knew her so well.”
The president added that he knew Dolly Parton “a little bit,” adding, “She really liked me, I will tell you.”
“She was of the opinion, you know, the 50% — who needs to lose, I don’t think it’s 50. I think it’s probably 20% of the fans, okay?” he continued. “But she was a great person, and she was just a nice person. You know, I liked her a lot, and I thought it was a natural thing to lower the flags.”
