Losing weight can be a real confidence booster, it might be the start of the summer and we want to get into shape or maybe our eating habits have become bad after the festive season.
But, for Matthew Houser, from Bristol, Virginia, losing weight was a matter of life or death after his doctor told him he only had six months left to live.
Now he wants to use his experience and incredible transformation to inspire others.
Started planning his funeral
In 2016 Matthew was hospitalized because of his weight, tipping the scales at just over 800 pounds.
“I was basically on my death bed. I figured, well, this is it. Might as well start planning my funeral”, he said, according to British newspaper The Mirror.
Matthew’s turning point
He had resigned himself to his death sentence. Since childhood, Houser struggled with his weight, experiencing depression and anxiety as a result.
“When I was growing up in school, I got bullied a lot and didn’t have many friends,” Houser said. “My friends were basically food and TV.”
But then something just changed in his mind.
“All of a sudden, one day, I was in the hospital and it just clicked. You need to do something, you need to change your life,” he said, as reported by The Mirror.
Three years later, Houser is hardly recognizable to friends and family. Now, the 25-year-old is almost unrecognizable after losing almost 600 pounds.
Matthew has achieved his remarkable transformation by keeping a food journal and exercising at least two hours six days a week.
Now he hopes his incredible story will inspire others.
“It’s going to be hard but you can do it,” he added.
Wow what a incredible change! It’s really amazing what you can achieve when you put your mind to it.
