Charlie Woods’ grandfather reveals surprising details about Tiger Woods’ son’s private life

Charlie Woods, the son of golf legend Tiger Woods, is growing up fast. Although he has committed to playing golf at the university level, we still don’t know much about him. Now, his grandfather, Thomas Nordegren, has broken his silence about his grandchild and revealed new details about Charlie.

Tiger Woods is considered the greatest golfer of all time. However, in recent decades, he has been involved in some major scandals.

He has two children with his former wife, Elin. In 2007, their daughter Sam Alexis was born, and in 2009, Nordegren gave birth to a boy, Charlie Axel.

But the marriage’s strain became clear in 2009. In December that year, all hell broke loose when Tiger Woods’ extramarital affairs were exposed in the media. The man who introduced Woods to Nordegren, former golf star Jesper Parnevik, was remorseful.

“I’m kind of filled with sorrow for Elin since me and my wife are at fault for hooking her up with him, and we probably thought he was a better guy than he is,” he said.

After Woods and Nordegren’s divorce, the couple agreed to maintain a civil relationship to make things easier for their children. They still co-parent them together.

Both Nordegren and Woods have moved on. Tiger continued his golf career, and his son Charlie also became very interested in the sport. Today, he has turned out to be a huge talent, just like his father. But a comment made by his Swedish grandfather is raising eyebrows.

Charlie Woods – the son of Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren

Born on February 8, 2009, Charlie didn’t take long to learn his way around a golf course. When his father played, Charlie often watched tournaments, and it didn’t take long for him to become interested in playing himself.

. By age seven, Charlie began competing, earning second place on the Kids Golf South Florida Tour in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Of course, it’s hardly fair to hold Charlie Woods to the same expectations as his father. It’s not easy trying to prove yourself as the child of one of the best – if not the best – golf players of all time.

That’s why many thought Charlie’s results on the South Florida Junior Golf Tour were so impressive. In fact, he’s won several tournaments with his father cheering him on. Not only that, but according to Golf Digest, Tiger was even carrying his son’s clubs around the course.

When playing against each other, Woods Senior is still the champion.

“I’m still winning…for now. He’s starting to get into it. He’s starting to understand how to play; he’s asking me the right questions,” Tiger said about his son in 2020. “I’ve kept it competitive with his par, so it’s been just an absolute blast to go out there and just be with him. It reminds me so much of me and my dad [growing up].

Charlie Woods’ grandfather spills new details about youngster’s life

“I don’t know [if Charlie can break some of my records]. It depends how bad he wants it. It’s all on him. I wanted it at a very, very early age. I wanted to compete and play in this game. That’s on him—whether he wants it or not.”

Charlie Woods is growing up fast, and now, he has begun his college studies. In February, he committed to golf at Florida State University, with many other universities battling for his signature. One of those was Stanford, where his father went to school and played golf.

Time will tell whether Charlie Woods becomes a professional golfer. But now, his Swedish grandfather, Thomas, has offered some insight into Tiger Woods’ son’s life.

Speaking with Swedish news outlet Expressen, Thomas, Elin’s father, explained that his grandson is quite shy but also very competitive.

Moreover, Charlie takes his training and commitment to golf very seriously, although being Tiger Woods’ son could come at a high price.

“Difficult to have a father who has been the best in the world”

Grandpa Thomas compared it to the son of tennis legend Bjorn Borg, Leo.

“It’s always difficult to have a father who has been the best in the world, but he is aware of that. There will always be a Leo Borg aspect to it. No matter how good you become, you will always be compared to your father,” Thomas told Expressen, adding that they have “talked about” pressure, but that Charlie is “very clear about his ambitions. He loves playing golf.”

Thomas, who shares his daughter Elin’s surname, Nordegren, also said Charlie usually visits Sweden in the summer. There, he, of course, plays golf and, perhaps not surprisingly, also speaks Swedish.

Every other year, the Ryder Cup, a competition between the U.S. and Europe, is played, which is considered one of the most, if not the most, prestigious team golf tournaments in the world.

So would Charlie Woods represent the U.S. or Europe?

“He has joked about who he would play for in the Ryder Cup one day, but we’ve never taken it seriously. If it happens, it’s still a long way off. But he does have the potential to be a bit like Armand Duplantis,” Thomas Nordegren said
