The Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed that emergency crews were called to her Los Angeles home just after 8 a.m., and one person was transported to a nearby hospital before being pronounced dead.

Audio from the 911 dispatch, obtained by TMZ, revealed the chilling moment first responders were sent out. In the clip, a dispatcher can be heard saying, “Rescue 19, person down,” before giving Keaton’s address.

At the time, the family asked for “privacy in this moment of great sadness.”

Now, they’re expressing deep gratitude to the fans and friends who have reached out in the wake of her loss.

“The Keaton family are very grateful for the extraordinary messages of love and support they have received these past few days on behalf of their beloved Diane, who passed away from pneumonia on October 11,” the statement read.

“She loved her animals and she was steadfast in her support of the unhoused community, so any donations in her memory to a local food bank or an animal shelter would be a wonderful and much appreciated tribute to her.”

A painful shock

According to a close friend who spoke to People, Keaton’s decline came as a painful shock.

“She declined very suddenly, which was heartbreaking for everyone who loved her. It was so unexpected, especially for someone with such strength and spirit,” the friend said.

Oscar-winning songwriter Carole Bayer Sager, one of Keaton’s longtime friends and collaborators, recalled how frail the actress appeared in their last meeting.

“I saw her two or three weeks ago, and she was very thin,” Sager said. “She had lost so much weight.”

Sager explained that Keaton had recently relocated to Palm Springs after wildfires severely damaged her California home.

“She had to go to Palm Springs because her house had been damaged inside, and they had to clean everything,” she said. “She was down there for a while, and when she came back, I was kind of stunned by how much weight she’d lost.”

De Niro paid tribute

Ever since Keaton’s death, tributes have poured in from across Hollywood, with some of the biggest names in the industry honoring the legendary actress.

Robert De Niro, who shared the screen with Keaton multiple times, said:

In an emotional essay published by The Free Press Sunday, Woody Allen described Keaton as a one-of-a-kind individual.
