In today’s interconnected world, virtually all of us own a cell phone or smartphone.

Many of us simply can’t imagine life without our phones, and in many ways, we’ve become dependent on them.

After all, we don’t just call people or send them text messages—we also use them to play games, listen to music, and read the news.

We use smartphones everywhere, and in one recent survey, 60 percent of those questioned admit to using their phone on the toilet.

But for all the time we spend using our phones, not many of us are concerned about the health effects costantly using mobile phones.

So it’s good to take a little time to examine the latest research on the effects of cell phone radiation.


The meteoric rise in mobile phone use has triggered some concern.

Some people argue that cell phones pose no risks, while others argue that concerns about long-term health risks are scientifically justified.

Recently, new research on cell phone radiation has come out, including a study from Finland.

There, researchers have found that the electromagnetic field from mobile phones affect the brain’s consumption of glucose after only 33 minutes.

The study showed that mobile phone radiation affects the sugar the brain uses for fuel. And this affects some of our most basic cognitive functions: our memory, our ability to concentrate, and our capacity to learn new things.

It’s important to note that the researchers couldn’t establish any links between frequent use of mobile phones and long-term health effects like brain tumors.

Researchers at the Weizmann Institute of Science also examined the possible harmful effects of cell phones. They published their results in Biochemical Journal and their study shows that using certain mobile phones for as few as 15 minutes can trigger changes in brain cells.


Studies suggest that mobile phone use increases the risk of a kind of brain tumor called glioma, as well as cancer of the auditory nerve.

But, according to Swedish scientist Jimmy Estenberg, we should be aware of one thing:

“There is no support for the increased risk of cancer statistics. On the contrary, the incidence trend for these types of cancer has been largely unchanged since the 1970s, long before we got to the widespread use of mobile phones,” he told Swedish tech site M3.


A phone’s SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) reveals how much radio wave energy a phone transmits and is absorbed by the body.

Every cell phone’s SAR is stated in its manual, and phones sold in the US and EU must have a SAR value lower than the legal limit.

You can reduce the potentially harmful effects of cell phone radiation by following the following six safety measures:

1. Try to keep phone calls as short as possible.

2. Put your phone in airplane mode when you’re not using it.

3. The closer you hold your phone to your body, the more energy you absorb. Aqueous tissue, such as skin, muscles, blood, and brain tissue absorb the most radio wave energy.

4. Look for good phone reception. Good coverage means that your phone can operate at much lower strength.

5. Don’t sleep anywhere near a turned-on phone. Radio wave strength rapidly decreases as you get away from it.

6. Use speaker mode or a hands-free headset so you don’t have the phone on your ear.


Although the risk of brain tumors and acoustic neuroma caused by prolonged mobile phone use is still speculation at this point, I think it’s best to be on the safe side.
