While money can buy you a lot of things, it really can’t buy you everything. This family is a prime example of valuing sentiment over money.
Even when offered millions for their land, they were steadfast and made sure not to sell out and stood their ground, quite literally!
The Zammit family who has been living The Ponds, a suburb of Sydney, Australia for years received a knock on the door from developers buying land in the area. The developers had essentially bought all the land in the neighborhood and only one piece of land was left.
The piece of land in question was huge and would make a massive difference to the developers as it could possibly fit about 40 to 50 properties and is valued at about $50 million dollars.
In 2018 developers started to buy land surrounding the property and constructed as many properties on it as they possibly could. Of course, this means properties crammed and squeezed together, to maximize profits earned from the development.
As the development of the area progressed, offers to the Zammit family increased but they did not budge and instead held their ground, quite literally.
Taylor Bredin, an agent for Ray White Quaker Hill told the news, “The fact that most people sold out years and years ago, these guys have held on. All credit to them.”
“Depending on how far you push the development plan, you’d be able to push anywhere from 40 to 50 properties on something like this, and when subdivided, a 300 square meter block would get a million dollars,” Bredin remarked.
Even when offered millions of dollars, the family has remained steadfast and uninterested in selling their property. A lot of people regard this as an incredibly brave thing to do!
The vast strip of land that hosts the Zammit home, sits in the middle of identical homes, standing out. Everyone wonders whether the family will give in and accept the offers of millions of dollars. However, they have made no public statements about their plans to do so.
While a lot of people might have happily accepted the first offer that came their way, this family has made sure to stand their ground and hold on to what was more important to them; their family home.
