The past few days have been all about Donald Trump’s inauguration, with all eyes on the Trump family and his inner circle.
But in the midst of it all, an unexpected star stole the show — JD Vance’s little daughter.
What she wore on her hand left everyone’s hearts melting.
Matching blue suits and ties
January 20 was a momentous day for the Vance family. And photos of J.D. Vance and his family at the inauguration of the newly elected Vice President quickly captured the hearts of people across the nation.
The pictures showcased Vance alongside his wife, Usha, and their three children — Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel — radiating pride and warmth.
The Vice President showed up for the big moment in a sharp dark blue suit, and you could tell it was a huge deal for him personally. It’s wild to think that just two years ago, he won his very first political race in Ohio.
During the swearing-in ceremony, J.D. placed his hand on the Bible, held by his wife, Usha, as he took the oath of office. Usha stood proudly next to her husband, cradling little Mirabel, 2, in her arms, while their sons, Ewan, 7, and Vivek, 4, dressed in matching blue suits and ties, looked on. It was a picture-perfect family moment—until viewers noticed a small but heartwarming detail.
Mirabel’s moment
Mirabel, with her thumb in her mouth, had her tiny fingers wrapped in bandages. It was such a heartwarming moment because, amidst all the historic and formal events of the day, she reminded everyone of the simple, sweet innocence of being a toddler. It wasn’t just the cute bandages on her fingers—it was the carefree way she was soaking in such a big moment. She had a relaxed, childlike charm, which made it even more special. It reminded everyone of the simplicity of being a kid, even in the spotlight, just like when you’re glued to your favorite cartoons—whether it’s Bluey or Scooby-Doo.
Just like any other little kid, she had her own little quirks, and that made the whole thing feel more real and relatable.
Social media quickly lit up with adoration for the toddler’s innocent charm. One user wrote on X, “I think the whole country can come together and agree that JD Vance’s daughter sucking her thumb with those kid bandages on her other fingers is totally adorable.” Another joked, “JD Vance’s daughter covering herself with bandaids just ahead of an important event is an iconic toddler move.”
A separate photo captured another tender family moment as J.D. bent down to talk to his two sons. One of the boys held tight to a stuffed bear while leaning on a railing, proving even monumental events can’t shake the comfort of a favorite toy.
Wrapped in bandages
But Mirabel wasn’t the only one drawing attention. Usha, the nation’s new Second Lady, also turned heads in her custom Oscar de la Renta cashmere coat and tea-length dress in a soft shade of pink. The ensemble was elegant, but it wasn’t just her outfit that had people talking.
Usha, who grew up in a middle-class community in San Diego as the daughter of Indian immigrants, has always been a source of strength and pride for the family. She and J.D. met in law school in 2010, and have been married since 2014. Monday’s ceremony also marked a significant milestone for Usha as the first Indian American Second Lady.
After the ceremony, J.D.’s children and his mother were escorted out of the U.S. Capitol, with each of his sons walking alongside a guard while Mirabel was carried.
The family moment melted hearts nationwide, with viewers calling the Vance family “lovely” and gushing over the children’s sweetness. One admirer remarked, “Vance’s little daughter looks just like him. So cute.”
Parents to three children
J.D. Vance and his wife, Usha, are parents to three children. While the Vance children occasionally make appearances at public events, their parents have kept most details about their lives private.
Their first son, Ewan, was born in 2017, followed by their second son, Vivek, in 2020, and their youngest, daughter Mirabel, arrived in December 2021.
The Vice President shared the joyous news in a now-deleted Instagram post, featuring a heartfelt photo from the hospital. In the image, he lovingly held the newest member of their family:
”We were blessed with an early Christmas present this year. Everyone please meet Mirabel Rose Vance, our first girl. Mama and baby both doing great, and we’re feeling very grateful this Christmas season,” he wrote.
In February 2024, J.D. also made a touching gesture for his son Vivek’s 4th birthday by reading Oh, the Places You’ll Go! by Dr. Seuss on the Senate floor.
“I’m sorry that I can’t be with you for your birthday dinner,” he said during the reading. “But I want you to know that Daddy loves you very much. And I’m going to read this into the record because maybe you can watch it at home.”
In a world often consumed by politics and division, the simplicity of a toddler’s bandaged fingers and a stuffed bear reminded everyone watching of what truly matters — family, love, and the moments that make life beautifully imperfect.
As one viewer put it perfectly, “J.D. Vance has the CUTEST daughter. She is absolutely adorable. 😍
