Staggering amount every person on Earth would get if Elon Musk divided his $1.4 trillion fortune equally

Elon Musk reportedly became the world’s first trillionaire after the value of his companies, especially SpaceX, pushed his net worth to a staggering $1,4 trillion. While it has sparked a heated debate, it might be hard to determine exactly how much he is worth. If he were to divide it equally among everyone on earth, here’s how much money every person would get.

The milestone net worth of Elon Musk, who last week became the world’s first trillionaire, has stirred heated debate online. But while $1,4 trillon is Musk’s net worth, it’s not money he has access to.

Most of Musk’s wealth isn’t sitting in a bank account. Instead, it’s tied up in company shares, mainly SpaceX and Tesla, both of which he also founded.

When SpaceX went public last week, the company’s valuation alone was enough to push Musk past the trillion-dollar mark on paper. Financial experts claim that while the number is staggering, it’s also largely theoretical as it’s not “real” money.

Selling even a small part of that stock could dramatically affect the market, which, in the long run, could make, in this case, Musk’s fortune difficult to “cash out.”

So how much money is $1,4 trillion really? And what would happen if Musk’s fortune were divided equally among everyone on Earth? The idea of splitting Musk’s wealth among the global population has become a popular online experiment, and the result might shock you.

How much would every person on Earth get if Elon Musk’s fortune were split equally?

Estimates suggest that if his fortune were distributed equally among roughly 8 billion people, each person would receive only a relatively modest amount—around $100 to $150.

While that might sound surprising given the headline number, it highlights an important reality: even extreme personal wealth becomes much smaller when spread across the entire planet.

While a big chunk of the discussion about Elon Musk has focused mainly on his fortune, it has also caused a wider debate about how wealth is measured in modern society, as well as about inequality and taxation.

As SpaceX launched, several Senators took to social media to share their views on Elon Musk’s net worth and called for changes to the law.

“The typical American household would have to work more than 11 MILLION years to make Elon Musk’s level of wealth. We need a wealth tax,” Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Massachusetts, wrote on X.

Hefty debate about taxing the rich

Rep. Sara Jacobs, D-California, wrote, “It’s beyond sickening that Elon Musk – the world’s first trillionaire – pays a lower effective tax rate than truck drivers, firefighters, or nurses. It’s not complicated – we need to actually TAX THE RICH.”

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vermont, claimed, “Today, Elon Musk, a trillionaire, pays the same amount into Social Security as someone making $184,500.”
