“I feel blessed” – 18-year-old becomes the first Black male Valedictorian in school’s 106-year history

An 18-year-old student has become the first Black male valedictorian in his school’s 106-year history and has been offered a place at all the 11 colleges he applied for.

Ahmed Muhammad is not only graduating top of his class but also took 13 advanced placement classes at Oakland Technical High School where he attends as well as his local community college.

“I’m super excited,” the California student told Good Morning America. “I feel blessed.”

Ahmed is graduating from school with a 4.73 GPA and, depending on how his final few classes go, may even leave with a 5.0., as per Good Morning America.

He’s now been accepted into the 11 colleges he applied to including Howard, Columbia, Princeton, Harvard, and Stanford.

“I didn’t think it was going to happen,” he said. “I would have been happy to get into just one college because you can only go to one college,” he said.

Ahmed plans to attend Stanford which will make him the first person in his family to go to college. He plans to explore different engineering disciplines.

“There’s so much cool stuff to learn,” he said. “I’m going to try to learn as much as I can.”

And if that wasn’t enough achievement Ahmed also plays on the varsity basketball team and participates in volunteer tutoring, the Oakland Youth Advisory Commission, and his nonprofit science program called Kits Cubed.

The talented student came up with the idea for his nonprofit last April which allows young kids to do science experiments with simple household objects which are then packaged into kits that families can purchase for a reasonable price.

“There’s no introduction at this early age where it’s so important to fall in love with concepts,” he said.

He has distributed thousands of these kits across the nation but for now is focusing on his local community.

“I’m a product of Oakland, and to be able to bring science kits to the same schools that I went to, the same school district that molded me, is something that I would really like to do,” he said. “We don’t have plans on stopping any time soon.”

What an incredible young man who will undoubtedly inspire so many others to reach for the stars. I wish you every success!
