A horrifying trial in Pennsylvania is closing in. Jessica Mauthe stands accused of killing her own children shortly after they were born. The four dead newborns were found in disturbing places, after Mauthe had given birth on the toilet.
It was back in September when Jessica Mauthe was evicted from her home on Oak Avenue in Cadogan, Pennsylvania, that the landlord made the horrific discovery. Four dead infants were found inside the home.
Landlord Brent Flanigan went into the home to clean up, but discovered a strong odor emanating from a trash bag in a closet. He made the horrifying discovery that it was a baby, and called the police straight away.
The remains of four infants were found. Each was stuffed in plastic totes and wrapped in towels and plastic bags. One child was even discovered in a bucket.
“Whenever we moved the bag, it was just overwhelming, overpowering,” landlord Brent Flanigan said in September. “That is why we took it outside and opened it up.”
The woman, Jessica Mauthe, was charged last week. She admitted that she gave birth to four children, named A, B, C, and D, over six years. State police have testified in preliminary hearings that Mauthe explained why she did what she did.

Per CBS, her defense attorney says mental health issues could be in play.
“This is the beginning of a very long process and I would just ask people not to make assumptions before all the evidence is in,” Mauthe’s defense attorney, Chuck Pascal, said.
Mauthe further told investigators that some of the babies were born alive while others fell into the toilet and didn’t make any sounds. Why she didn’t report the births, at least on one occasion, the woman said she didn’t want to get in trouble, as she was on an anti-addiction drug without a prescription.
“As part of the defense, we are going to look at every possible option,” Pascal continued. “There was no evidence introduced today about any cause of death, about whether any baby was alive, any scientific evidence. Therefore, you’ve got to question anything that Miss Mauthe may have said, whether it was accurate or not. She may not know.”
Mauthe remains in the Armstrong County Jail facing multiple charges, which include criminal homicide. As of today, there is no word on a trial date, and there’s also no bond.
