Mom charged after two girls, 7 and 9, found floating in canal identified as sisters

A mother in Lauderhill, Florida, has been charged in the deaths of her two daughters, found floating in the same canal.

As per Metro, 36-year-old Tinessa Hogan pleaded not guilty to two counts of premeditated murder of sisters Daysha, 7, and Destiny, 9.

On June 22, Lauderhill PD received a call about a child’s body drifting in a canal. The body was later identified as Destiny, and a police report stated she had scratches around her mouth and a laceration on the left side of her lip, suggesting that her death was not a result of accidental drowning.

According to reports, around the same time police on the other side of the canal spotted Tinessa Hogan, described as being draped in a white blanket and reading out Bible scriptures.

Tinessa was taken away in an ambulance and placed under psychiatric care.

Yet, just hours later, the body of Destiny’s sister, 7-year-old Daysha, was also recovered from the canal.

Tinessa, the girls’ mother, was formally arrested on July 14 and charged with the murders of her daughters. Her lawyer entered a not guilty plea on her behalf.

According to a woman from the local area, she saw Tinessa swimming in the canal the night before, clutching a bible. The woman told police that Tinessa offered to baptize her children, but she declined.

Other sources say Tinessa was seen a week before her daughters’ deaths holding a sign reading: “Death is the only answer”.

The investigation is ongoing.

What a truly heartbreaking story – rest in peace, Daysha and Destiny.
