People can’t believe what ‘woman in red dress’ behind Donald Trump used to look like as old photo resurfaces

Susan Dell has become the subject of widespread online discussion after appearing alongside President Donald Trump at the White House, with viewers focusing on everything from her red dress to her demeanor during the event.

The 62-year-old philanthropist appeared at an Oval Office briefing on Wednesday, October 7, to promote a new financial initiative for American children. But as footage from the announcement spread across social media, the woman standing beside Donald Trump quickly became a talking point.

Some viewers questioned her expressions and body language, while others compared the scene to a television sketch. The reaction also prompted internet users to revisit a very different chapter of Dell’s life, when she worked in the high-fashion industry.

Who is Susan Dell?

Susan Dell is married to Michael Dell, the chief executive of Dell Technologies. The couple tied the knot in 1989 and have four children together.

Beyond her husband’s technology business, the couple has spent decades supporting philanthropic initiatives through the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation, which they established in 1999 “to accelerate opportunities for families and build pathways to change lives globally.”

Their relationship with Trump has developed over several years, with their latest collaboration focused on a government-backed savings initiative known as Trump Accounts.

The program is designed to provide $1,000 investment accounts for infants born over the next four years. In December 2025, the Dells pledged $6.25 billion of their personal wealth to support the initiative.

During Wednesday’s White House appearance, Susan Dell encouraged parents nationwide to sign their children up for the program. She also announced an additional contribution of $250 for 25 million young account holders.

However, clips of the briefing soon circulated online, with many commenters directing their attention away from the financial announcement and toward the people appearing alongside the president.

One viewer compared Dell’s movements to those of a machine, writing: “Her mannerisms [are] like a robot clone,” according to VT.

Another focused on her outfit before noticing her expression, commenting: “I was looking at the dress because I thought it was something with that until I looked up and got actually jumpscared.”

A third person questioned the overall atmosphere of the footage, writing: “Nobody in this clip besides Trump looks like a real person, this is really weird.”

People online later identified the woman in red as Susan Dell. She stood beside her husband during the event, where Trump also made an unexpected remark to Michael Dell about whether his wife intended to pursue public office.

The exchange fueled further discussion, with one person expressing disbelief at the entire scene.

“This is legitimately one of the weirdest things I have ever seen. What the hell is this? Every single part of it. When can we go back to normal?” a user penned.

Others continued to speculate about the footage and the people featured in it.

“It gets worse the longer I look… is this a SNL skit?” one commenter asked.

Another added: “Is this AI or something? Who are the people around Trump, and especially that weird woman?”

Internet users also began sharing photographs from a very different period in Susan Dell’s life. An image from Olympus Fashion Week Fall 2006 shows her wearing an all-black outfit, a striking contrast to the red dress she wore at the White House.

At the time, Dell was working as both the founder and designer of her own luxury fashion label, Phi.
