Reason why so many celebrities wear red glasses now

If you’ve noticed celebrities stepping out in red-tinted glasses lately, you’re definitely not imagining things.

Tinted lenses have quietly made their way back into the spotlight, and become a full-on style statement. And right now, it’s the red tint that’s leading the trend.

But it’s not necessarily just about aesthetics.

According to a video shared by @sleeptints on Instagram, there’s actually a functional reason behind the trend. “The secret lies in how they block harmful artificial light, specifically blue, green and ultraviolet wavelengths.

“These are the types of light that disrupt your body’s production of melatonin, the hormone responsible for regulating your sleep cycle.

“Deep, restorative sleep allows bodies to repair muscle tissue, lower cortisol levels, and recharge energy for the next day,” she says according to Tyla.

Oliver Omura, founder of Specs Collective, offered a slightly different perspective when speaking to The Wall Street Journal, saying: “I think it helps for older gentlemen who want to maybe hide some of their eyes that make them appear a little older.”

Ashley Bezamat, owner of Dom Vetro, agrees the look is gaining traction: “I definitely do see [coloured lenses] as a trend, particularly with older people looking to kind of spruce up their game.”

There’s also a more technical side to it. Bob Hillman, owner of the brand Fabulous Fanny’s, explained that “the colour of the lens and the pigment of the lens impacts the quality of what you see and how you see”.

He pointed to pilots as an example, noting they often choose green or grey tinted lenses because they “enhance vividness and minimise scattered (blue and violet) light.”

So whether it’s about improving sleep, enhancing vision, or just leaning into a fashion moment, one thing’s clear, tinted glasses, especially the red ones, seem to be having a serious moment.
