Just hours before tragedy struck, a quiet Instagram moment captured a daughter cheering on her famous father — a fleeting, ordinary snapshot that would soon feel heartbreakingly final.
Found her dad
Romy Reiner, the 28-year-old daughter of actor and director Rob Reiner, shared an Instagram Story that now reads with a haunting weight. The post, seemingly casual at the time, showed a streaming screen featuring two films tied to her father’s career.
One was “This Is Spinal Tap II: The End Continues,” the long-awaited sequel to the cult classic Rob Reiner directed. The other was the original 1984 “This Is Spinal Tap,” the mockumentary that cemented his legendary status in Hollywood.
Over the image, Romy wrote a simple caption: “Go watch.” A brief, warm, proud endorsement, at the time just a daughter supporting her dad.
That ordinary post became chilling in hindsight. Romy would soon make a devastating discovery: she found Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Reiner, dead in their Los Angeles home, multiple sources confirmed.

She reportedly made a frantic 911 call, summoning police and paramedics to the tragic scene. Citing sources, TMZ said that Romy made a chilling comment to police about the aforementioned family member when they arrived, telling them they “should be a suspect” because they’re “dangerous.”
The contrast between a casual Instagram Story and the horror that followed is jarring. What was meant to be a moment of support has become a timestamp marking the last normal hours before everything changed.
Appeared close in recent weeks
Romy and her father had appeared close in recent weeks. Just under two weeks before the tragedy, she shared a photo of them together, smiling, relaxed, enjoying time with one another. Romy has stayed out of the public eye as much as she can and only appeared alongside her parents at certain events. But now, she’s been thrust into the spotlight in the most challenging and unforgettable way imaginable.
Romy is now mourning with her older brother, Jake Reiner (34), a journalist, and her half-sister, Tracy Reiner (61), known for A League of Their Own. Friends of the family, including Billy Crystal and Larry David, reportedly arrived at the home soon after Romy made the discovery to provide comfort and support to the grieving siblings.
For longtime fans of the Reiner family, the loss hits deeply. Rob Reiner’s personal life has long been woven into Hollywood history, including his marriage to actress and director Penny Marshall.
Tracy Reiner’s words
Reiner and Marshall married in 1971, during the height of their early careers. Reiner was starring on All in the Family, while Marshall was on the path to television stardom. During their marriage, Reiner adopted Marshall’s daughter, blending family and career in the public eye. Though they divorced in 1981, Reiner and Marshall remained iconic figures in comedy and Hollywood culture.
Tracy was the first of Rob’s children to break their silence following the heartbreaking incident, telling NBC News’ entertainment correspondent Chloe Melas that she is ‘in shock’.
“I came from the greatest family ever. I don’t know what to say. I’m in shock.”
At the same time, Nick Reiner has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the deaths of his parents, according to the Los Angeles police chief Jim McDonnell. Jail records first indicated his bail was set at $4 million, but authorities later ordered that the 32-year-old Reiner be held without bail.
He is set to appear in court today, December 16, 2025, according to reports.
