Sick senior sees his old blanket at an auction – realizes the unthinkable and jumps on the phone

Lauren, better known as LT, didn’t have it easy. After a serious car accident, he lost the lower part of one of his legs — and for several years he fought to survive on an USD $830/month disability cheque.

It appeared that life would simply never be the same again.

But one day as LT was watching TV, everything would take a drastic turn.

As LT flipped through the channels, he happened to pause on “Antiques’ Roadshow”, a program showcasing vintage items that may or may not be worth a lot of money.

In this episode, a professional appraiser examined a blanket which a man used to sleep. The man had inherited it from his grandfather, and suspected that it had come from the Navajo people.

It turned out that the piece was indeed an authentic blanket from the ancient Indian Navajo, not to mention one of the first of its kind ever made. And its value, you wonder? Somewhere between $350,000 and $500,000!

LT was immediately shaken. He realized that he himself owned a strikingly similar blanket that had been passed down to him.

Could it be the same? And what could it be worth?

For LT, who was experiencing such a difficult financial situation, it could change everything. So he dug his blanket out, did some research… and called a professional appraising service.

LT was soon invited to show his blanket at auctioneer firm John Moran Antique & Fine Arts Auctioneers in California, USA.

“I almost fell over,”says appraiser Jeff Moran. “If this is what we think it is, it’s truly an incredible Navajo weaving. I think the hair on the back of our neck stood up.”

It turned out that LT had one very special item in his possession.

It was likely owned by high-ranking and wealthy clan chief, had been weaved sometime between 1840 and 1850 — and was one of only 50 others in the world!

The value was set to USD $50,000, but that would be a modest amount in comparison to how much LT would sell the blanket for…

In June 2012, it was finally time for the auction.

In the end, his blanket sold for a staggering USD $1.5 million.

LT had been at the bottom for so long and now suddenly a miracle had occurred. Nobody deserved it as much as him!
