Donald Trump has revealed he has left explicit military instructions ordering the total destruction of Iran in the event that he is assassinated by Tehran, as he declared the ceasefire between the US and Iran officially over.
“Anything ever happens, we’re going to blow the whole country, the whole country is going to get blown up,” president Donald Trump told the New York Post.
“I have very firm instructions, anything happens, they’re going to wipe them off the face of this earth. There won’t be anything left.”
The comments came as Trump declared the fragile ceasefire agreement with Iran had collapsed following a night of major military escalation. US forces launched airstrikes on approximately 90 targets along Iran’s southern coast overnight in response to fresh Iranian attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran’s Health Ministry reported 14 deaths and 78 injuries from the strikes.
Several targets were hit
US Central Command said the operation was designed to weaken Iran’s ability to threaten freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
Targets included more than 60 Islamic Revolutionary Guard small boats. Iranian state media reported explosions in Bushehr, home to the country’s nuclear power plant, as well as the southern ports of Chabahar, Konarak, Bandar Abbas and Sirik.
A railway bridge in Golestan province was also reportedly struck, with Iran’s Revolutionary Guard confirming two bridges had been hit.
Crisis has entered its most volatile phase
Trump called future peace talks with Tehran a waste of time and described the Iranian leadership as “liars” and “cheats.” Iran has been identified by US officials as one of the most active sources of assassination threats against the president.
Trump framed his posthumous military instructions as the ultimate deterrent against any Iranian plot on his life, suggesting the knowledge of total retaliation should prevent any attempt from being made in the first place.
Defense analysts warn the crisis has entered its most volatile phase yet.
