Zohran Mamdani scored a historic victory in the New York City mayoral race.
In his victory speech, he directly challenged Donald Trump — and the president’s response was swift, sharp, and impossible to ignore…
Tensions were high
In a historic landslide, 34-year-old Zohran Mamdani has been elected New York City’s next mayor, crushing former governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa.
Mamdani racked up over 1.03 million votes, surpassing the combined total of all his opponents. His victory marks a groundbreaking moment: Mamdani becomes both the city’s first Muslim mayor and its first mayor of South Asian heritage.
Even before the election, tensions were high between left-leaning Zohran Mamdani and President Trump, who has deep, personal ties to New York City.

Speaking with Fox News in June earlier this year, Trump argued that a win for Mamdani was “inconceivable” because he recognized him to be “a pure communist”. Ahead of the vote, Trump took to Truth Social with a pointed warning, threatening to cut federal funding to the city if Mamdani, whom he once again branded a “communist”, won.
“Whether you personally like Andrew Cuomo or not, you really have no choice. You must vote for him and hope he does a fantastic job. He is capable of it, but Mamdani is not!” Trump wrote.
“If Communist Candidate Zohran Mamdani wins the Election for Mayor of New York City, it is highly unlikely that I will be contributing Federal Funds, other than the very minimum as required, to my beloved first home,” he added.
A nation betrayed by Donald Trump
But now the election is over, and the city’s Board of Elections reported the highest voter turnout in over 50 years, with more than two million New Yorkers casting their ballots.
In his victory speech on Tuesday, November 4, Mamdani took aim at Trump, saying:
”New York will remain a city of immigrants, a city built by immigrants, powered by immigrants and as of tonight, led by an immigrant,” he said, adding: ”If anyone can show a nation betrayed by Donald Trump how to defeat him, it is the city that gave rise to him.”

But he didn’t stop there.
Wasting no time, Mamdani called out President Donald Trump, hinting at the fierce political battles ahead. Facing a roaring crowd, he directed four sharp words straight at the former president:
”Donald Trump, since I know you’re watching, I have four words for you: turn the volume up!”
Trump’s ominous answer
President Trump, who had been outspoken about who he wanted as New York’s next mayor, was predictably not thrilled by the results—or by Mamdani’s victory speech, which undoubtedly reached him. After the election, Trump took to Truth Social to post a strikingly ominous message:
“…AND SO IT BEGINS!”
The cryptic post has sparked widespread speculation. Given Trump’s previous claims that Mamdani is a “communist” and his threats to cut federal funding to New York City if Mamdani won, many believe the financial pressure could be his first move against the new mayor.
Trump has also warned of possible arrest or deportation should Mamdani take office, leading some to interpret his Truth Social message as a hint that such drastic measures might be on the table.
Whether Trump’s ominous words are mere bluster or a preview of real political battles ahead, one thing is clear: Mamdani’s historic victory has set the stage for a showdown that could redefine New York politics — and perhaps the nation’s.
