Natalie Harp, the executive assistant who has become one of Donald Trump’s most indispensable aides, has acquired yet another nickname.
Donald Trump aide Natalie Harp has earned herself a new nickname just days after being among the handful of people chosen to secretly board a catering truck with the president during an Iranian missile threat to Air Force One.
The nickname is “binkie,” as in security blanket.
New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman revealed the nickname on MSNOW Sunday, explaining that Harp has effectively become Trump’s comfort blanket. It follows her previous label of “human printer,” earned for her habit of providing Trump with large-format printouts of news articles and social media posts.
Harp is behind several of Trump’s Truth Social posts
Harp’s role has evolved considerably over her six years with the president. She now sits outside the Oval Office and is responsible for typing up and posting many of his Truth Social messages, including many of the infamous late-night ones.
A clip from the Apple TV documentary The Art of the Surge shows her typing up Trump’s thoughts in real time as he watched Kamala Harris’ 2024 convention speech surrounded by senior aides.
The catering truck incident
Let’s return to the catering truck for a moment. When intelligence suggested Iran might target Air Force One with a missile last week, Trump was quietly moved to a different plane via a catering truck.
The three aides chosen to accompany him, Harp, longtime aide Dan Scavino and Walt Nauta, were selected on the basis of loyalty. Scavino has been with Trump since his teenage years as a golf caddy. Nauta served as his military aide during the first term.
Crucially, press secretary Karoline Leavitt was not among those moved. She remained on the original plane, the one Trump believed could be a target and Leavitt announced her resignation as White House press secretary shortly after the incident, citing her desire to focus on her two young children.
The timing of Leavitt’s resignation has not gone unnoticed online.
“Karoline Leavitt announced her resignation 24 hours after she found out that Trump left her for dead on a plane he thought could be shot out of the sky,” one person wrote on X.
Others made similar observations, noting the 24-hour gap between her learning about the plane switch and her public departure from the role.
