Weezer bassist speaks out after wife charged with attempted murder

Weezer bassist Scott Shriner has issued a brief update on his wife, author Jillian Lauren, following a dramatic incident earlier this week in which she was shot by police and later charged with attempted murder.

According to reports, the 51-year-old was involved in a confrontation with police in Los Angeles after a hit-and-run suspect fled into her neighborhood. Lauren allegedly exited her home holding what appeared to be a 9mm handgun.

Police reportedly ordered her multiple times to drop the weapon. When she allegedly pointed it at officers, one officer fired, striking her in the shoulder.

Lauren retreated into her home after being shot and emerged approximately 30 minutes later with her babysitter. She was then taken to the hospital for treatment and later arrested. On Wednesday, the New York Times reported that Lauren had officially been charged with attempted murder, with bail set at $1 million.

The incident coincided with the announcement that Weezer would be a last-minute addition to this year’s Coachella lineup, taking the stage in California on Saturday afternoon. Despite the serious developments, Shriner indicated that the band’s plans remain unchanged.

When approached by the New York Post while walking the couple’s four dogs in their Eagle Rock neighborhood, Shriner simply said: “She’s alright, thank you for asking. See you at Coachella!”

Lauren, a best-selling author known for her memoirs Some Girls: My Life in a Harem (which she penned after her time as a member of the 25-strong harem of women employed by the Prince of Brunei) and Everything You Ever Wanted, has not made a public statement. Footage published by the Post showed her emerging from her home with her hands raised before being ordered to the ground and taken into custody.

Reports suggest she has since posted the $1 million bail and may already be recovering at home, as her injuries were described as non-life-threatening.

The status of the hit-and-run suspects involved in the initial incident remains unclear. While one individual was reportedly taken into custody, two others appear to still be at large.
