Besides needing water to sustain life, your body also depends on water in several ways to stay healthy.
Every part of your body needs water to function—from your digest track to the system that helps you maintain your weight.
But if you don’t drink enough water, your health will suffer.

1. Your urine is darker than usual
If your urine is dark, it can be a sign that you’re drinking too little water. The kidneys remove waste products from the body and dark urine means there isn’t enough water to flush away the toxins. But on the other hand, if your urine is bright yellow, you’re drinking enough water.
2. You have dry skin
The skin is the body’s largest organ, and needs moisture from the inside to work. If your skin feels dry and wrinkled, and especially if it cracks, you are dehydrated. Drink a glass of water!
3. You are constantly hungry
When you are dehydrated, you might confuse thirst with hunger. This means that you might eat food when you actually need to drink water.
4. You have a headache
A headache is often a sign of dehydration. If you don’t have enough water in your body, your blood pressure can drop, which in turn affects the brain, often in the form of a painful headache.
5. You are tired and lethargic
If you have too little water in your body, your body’s oxygenation process will be hindered and you’ll feel tired and listless.
6. You have pain in your joints
Water is needed for the body’s joints and cartilage to function as intended. Without water, the joints dry out, meaning that they absorb less shock, which can be painful.
7. You urinate often
It’s normal to urinate between four to six times a day. Any less often and it could be a sign that you’re not drinking enough water. Remember to also check the color of your urine!
8. You often become constipated
The body’s digestive system needs water to function well. If you’re dehydrated, the body tries to get hold of water wherever it can. This means that water in your intestine that would have kept your stool soft is sent elsewhere, causing you to become constipated.
But remember, just like everything in life, you shouldn’t go overboard and drink too much water!
