Prince William and Kate Middleton reportedly had a hard time choosing the name for their firstborn son. Kate reportedly wanted to name him Alexander at first, and another report suggested that they used their dog, Lupo, to help them chose a name. The couple reportedly wrote all the possible names on sheets of paper, put them on the floor of their home, and then let Lupo choose.
In the end, he was named George Alexander Louis. His full name is a tribute to several members of the Royal Family, with George being a nod to King George VI, the father of the late Queen Elizabeth II. Also, it's the middle name of George's grandfather, King Charles.
As mentioned, Kate wanted to name him Alexander, which instead became his middle name. Alexandra was Queen Elizabeth's first middle name. Louis is in honor of Louis Mountbatten–Prince Philip's uncle–which is also Prince William's middle name.

Can Prince George become King as a child?
Yes, Prince George could technically be king as a child. However, The Regency Act of 1937 states, "If the Sovereign is, at His Accession, under the age of eighteen years, then, until He attains that age, the royal functions shall be performed in the name and on behalf of the Sovereign by a Regent." In other words, another "regent" will take over George's royal duties until he turns 18. He will still be king, and the regent will rule "on behalf" of him.
The Regency Act states that if George hasn't turned 18 yet, the person next in line of succession will take over his royal duties. In that case, Prince Harry would take the role of king.
