Miller Lite announces surprising new product on sale this month — beer fans are baffled

Are you someone who enjoys the distinct aftertaste of domestic lite beer, without actually having to get buzzed? Well now there’s a very specific product just for you!

Miller Lite has announced a new product that is causing quite some buzz, and some confusion, among beer lovers. The product: beer-flavored mints.

The strange new product, available as a limited release this month, doesn’t contain alcohol. It reportedly has the refreshing taste of spearmint, but once chewed releases the “subtle, yet great taste” of the iconic Miller Lite beer.

“Beer lovers can ‘chew their brew’ without consuming a drop of beer and enjoy some fresh breath in the process,” the company said in a press release, per the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

You may be asking why anyone would want to buy such a product, and why anyone would crave the taste of Miller Lite without the benefit of getting slightly drunk, let alone that taste mixed with mint.

But there’s a reason Miller Lite is releasing the mints this month: it’s targeted at people participating in “Dry January,” the annual challenge where people abstain from alcohol for the first 31 days of the year.

“We created Beer Mints for the folks participating in Dry January who might miss the taste of Miller Lite while being out with friends this January,” Ann Legan, Miller’s vice president of marketing, said in the press release.

“If you love the taste of beer but want to take a break from the ABV for the month, we’re offering consumers the perfect way to enjoy Miller Lite without breaking any resolutions.”

We have some reservations about that idea: even though you’re staying sober, your distinctly beery-minty breath might tell a different story. It might seem like you caved, drank a Miller and tried to cover up the evidence with spearmint.

But Miller Lite is reportedly the sixth best-selling beer brand in the US, so there might be plenty of loyal customers willing to give these unusual mints a go, especially ones in the middle of Dry January.

The Miller Lite mints will go on sale on January 12, via the company’s website. They’ll be available in a 1.13-ounce tin for $5.

Will these mints “leave consumers’ breath feeling fresh and their taste buds hoppy,” as the release promises? Only time will tell. Be sure to pick up a pack and let us know how they taste.
