The holes diameter is 300 meters and is shielded by the coral reef from the surrounding sea.

This natural phenomenon is situated in The Caribbean Sea ten miles outside of Belize City.

This is how the small atoll looks from space. The Great Blue Hole? Just a small dot.

It was formed during several episodes of quaternary glaciation when sea levels were much lower. As the ocean began to rise again, the cave was flooded and the reaction evolved into these tunnels and caves in the underground.

When the legendary Jacques-Yves Cousteau explored The Great Blue Hole in 1971 he named it one of the world greatest places to go scuba diving. After that, it became a very famous diving site.

There are, of course, several species of fish. If you go here you may see Caribbean reef sharks, hammerheads and bull sharks.
