Parents rush to catch flight, abandon infant at Israeli airport

Caught in the excitement or stress of travel, people sometimes become forgetful and leave personal belongings behind at the airport.

One couple however took this to the next level when they left their tiny human at the check-in desk of an international airport while they rushed off to board their flight.

Keep reading to learn more about the couple who abandoned their baby in Tel Aviv, Israel.

A little more than one year ago, a couple and their baby arrived at the Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv, Israel.

The unidentified parents, who were carrying Belgian passports, had two tickets for a Ryanair flight to Brussels, but their little one did not have a boarding pass.

When they were checking in, they were told by airport staff that they could not board without purchasing a separate ticket for the infant.

According to the Ryanair website, infants (up to two) can travel with parents if they sit on an adult’s lap during the flight.

But, “When making your booking, please select ‘Infant’ in the drop-down when choosing passenger type.”

Apparently, the parents failed to follow booking recommendations for their child, and unwilling to buy a ticket for the infant, they left the baby in its carrier and hurriedly attempted to board the plane.

Baby left on conveyor belt

Israel Airports Authority report that the couple arrived late for their flight to Brussels, and seemed anxious to get through airport security, with or without their infant.

The child was left in his carrier, which was covered, on the conveyor belt at the check-in desk.

But it didn’t take long for the child to be spotted by airport staff who quickly involved airport security.

The reckless parents were stopped before they boarded the plane and detained by police.

“We’ve never seen anything like this,” a Ryanair worker told local media. “We couldn’t believe what we were seeing.”

CNN reports the Israeli Airport Authority confirmed the incident and said in a statement: “A couple and an infant with Belgian passports arrived for a flight at Terminal 1 without a ticket for the baby. The couple also arrived late for the flight, once the check-in for the flight was closed. The couple left the infant seat with the baby and ran toward the security checks at Terminal 1 in an attempt to reach the boarding gate for the flight.”

The outlet also writes that Israel Police said the matter was resolved: “The baby was with the parents and there’s no further investigation.”

Details regarding this incident are still undisclosed.
