A shooting at a mall in Indiana left the entire community shaken. The sad incident claims four lives and left more injured however the quick actions of a local citizen saved everyone from more harm.
A shooting broke out at Greenwood Park Mall in Indiana. The suspect in the shooting is said to be an adult male, who entered the mall around 6 p.m. on Sunday evening carrying a rifle and several magazines of ammunition.
The suspect began shooting into the mall which resulted in three deaths and two injuries. Greenwood Police Department confirmed that the suspect was shot by a good samaritan. The name of the good samaritan was not released by police, but he was identified as a 22-year-old from Bartholomew County.
The 22-year-old was armed with a handgun he owned legally and is said to be completely cooperating with law enforcement about the incident.
The police have yet to release more details about the shooter or the motivation for the shooting.
In a press conference after the incident, the police confirmed that one man and four women were victims of the attack. All victims were adults except one minor female who was only mildly injured and rushed to the hospital.
Both victims who were injured are in stable condition. Of the four deaths, two were said to have been pronounced dead at the scene while the other two were pronounced dead at the hospital. Officials are working to make identifications of the deceased.
“We are sickened by another type of incident like this in our country, in our city,” IMPD Assistant Chief Chris Bailey told the media.
Greenwood Police Department Chief Jim Ison held a press conference outside of the mall. He said to the media, “As you can imagine, this type of situation is horrible,” adding, “It’s rocked us to our core.”
No other information about the attack has been but authorities are asking anyone who has information to come forward.
