We seem to live in a world today where faith is taking more of a backseat. Personally, I don’t think it’s beneficial to society, and I certainly wouldn’t encourage people to turn away from religion, but that sadly seems to be the way things are going.
Of course, there remain those who are proud of their convictions, and who will openly vouch for the power of faith and the healing it can bring. We’ve talked in the past about celebrities such as Mark Wahlberg and Vince Gill, who have risked criticism in defense of their beliefs, but it would appear that Hollywood A-lister Chris Pratt is every bit as staunch where his faith is concerned.
The much-loved actor was at a screening for the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 lately when he was asked about the criticism he receives. Pratt replied to say that it’s nothing new, likening the hate he gets to that of Jesus Christ 2,000 ago.
Speaking to Page Six, Pratt said: “That’s nothing new, that’s nothing new, you know.
“If I was of this world, they would love me just like that but as it is, I’ve chosen out of this world. That’s John 15: 18 through 20.
“That’s the way it is, nothing new, 2,000 years ago they hated him (Jesus), too.”
The 43-year-old’s career has gone from strength to strength over the past decade. He’s experienced immense success with roles in productions such as Zero Dark Thirty (2013), the Jurassic World trilogy, and The Terminal List (2022).
Despite his fame and stature, however, Pratt came under fire recently ahead of reprising his role as Star-Lord in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. Much of the criticism leveled at him was connected to 2019 rumors suggesting that he attended an anti-LGBTQ+ church.
Responding to those rumors at the time, Pratt wrote:
“It has recently been suggested that I belong to a church which ‘hates a certain group of people’ and is ‘infamously anti-LGBTQ.’ Nothing could be further from the truth. I go to a church that opens their doors to absolutely everyone.”
He added: “My faith is important to me but no church defines me or my life.”
As for the latest wave of criticism from his detractors – who count any number of online trolls among their number – Pratt insisted that the struggles Jesus faced have helped him.
Moreover, the actor apparently has a rather robust way of dealing with haters.
“Like a rhino, stick your head down, you keep driving forward, you have thick skin and if anyone gets in your way, you stick the horn right up their ass!” he said.
I don’t know about you, but I’m immensely proud of people like Christ Pratt, who can talk so openly and candidly about their faith.
